The Aging Eye: The Importance of Proper Lighting and Color for the Aging Market

Thursday, Jul 27, 2017 -

Time: 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Industry Seminar! People see colors in many different ways. So how do we design for older adults that see different from us? Cells in the retina that are responsible for normal color vision decline in sensitivity as we age, causing colors to become less bright and the contrast between different colors to be less noticeable. Older adult may need up to 70% more light than a 20 year old. Proper lighting combined with higher contrast surfaces will help with identification, way finding and provide signals for surface changes; room changes; improve safety and aid our ability to walk more confidently. Women want to feel secure and safe in their home. The Smart Home will address these concerns through the use of technology. This informative one hour IDCEC approved seminar will identify key colour and lighting elements that will provide you with design options to help your aging clients navigate through their home safely. KEY SPEAKING POINTS * Learn the demographics & characteristics of the aging client and eye * Identify lighting elements that improve safety and prevent risk of falling * Learn how COLOR and contrast improves wayfinding for the visually impaired * How technology will help with color and lighting color Presenter Wanda Gozdz, CAPS, ASID Allied, President, Golden Age Living, LLC Additional Information: Course #IDCEC 106296-1001 .1 HSW. Friday, Sep 15, 2017 - Saturday, Sep 16, 2017

Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm

Universal Design/Build presents a paradigm shift in how we approach residential design and construction. • Describe the significance of integrating UD concepts into residential construction

Thursday, Nov 16, 2017 - Friday, Nov 17, 2017

Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm

Universal Design/Build presents a paradigm shift in how we approach residential design and construction. Comfort and convenience regardless of age, stature or ability is the hallmark of inclusive design. Additionally, universal design must be pleasing to the eye and cost competitive. This course will benefit all who design, supply, build and remodel homes as well as those affiliated with social and health services. Participants will benefit from the creative design concepts and practices presented in order to develop their own market-driven projects with both broad aesthetic appeal and the necessary functional attributes. CAPS designees may find additional benefits from the course since it expands into the broader spectrum of universal design with a much wider target audience. CAPS training is not a pre-requisite.
